Size & Capacity Guide
Choosing the right memorial size should feel simple. Use the guide below as a general reference, and always check the capacity listed on each individual product page before ordering.
Choosing the Right Urn Size
A common guideline is:
1 cubic inch of urn capacity for every 1 lb of your pet’s body weight before cremation.
For example:
- 10 lb pet → at least 10 cu in
- 30 lb pet → at least 30 cu in
- 50 lb pet → at least 50 cu in
- 75 lb pet → at least 75 cu in
- 100 lb pet → at least 100 cu in
Whenever possible, we recommend choosing a slightly larger size to allow extra room for the ashes and their protective bag.

If your pet’s weight falls between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger option.
Metric Reference
As a general estimate:
1 kg of body weight requires approximately 35–40 mL of urn capacity.
Actual ash volume may vary depending on your pet’s size, bone structure, and the cremation process.
Full Ashes or Partial Ashes?
Not every memorial needs to hold all of your pet’s ashes.
Full-size urns are designed to hold most or all cremated remains.
Keepsake urns hold a smaller portion and are ideal for sharing ashes between family members or creating multiple memorials.
Memorial jewelry holds only a very small symbolic amount of ashes, fur, or hair.
Biodegradable & Plantable Urns
For biodegradable, mycelium, or plantable memorials, always refer to the listed ash capacity rather than the overall product dimensions.
Some designs include separate areas for:
- Ashes
- Soil
- Seeds
- Plants
Because of this, the full external size is not necessarily available for cremated remains.
Product Dimensions
Measurements such as:
Length × Width × Height
or
Diameter × Height
usually describe the outside of the product.
Internal capacity may be smaller because of wall thickness, lids, planting areas, or internal compartments.
When choosing an urn, always prioritize the listed capacity over the exterior dimensions.
